I like to carry the “extra C02 will trigger the next ice age” pennant, just to remind people, we really just don’t have enough information to know how it is going to turn out.

I would also not make too many determinations based on what is written in the newspapers. That may indeed present a minority opinion making noise. I can say that the atmospheric scientists at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, did not welcome Shyn-Ichi Akasofu’s presentation that the recent warming trend is part of an inter-decadal cycle. I thought the presentation was rather convincing. Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought the resistance meant that most atmospheric scientists are working on the assumption of anthropogenic global warming, if nothing else because that is where the funding comes from. I can’t say that I have studied the literature myself. I have taken on other challenges. But I’ll start asking around IARC when I get a chance.
